Worms, viruses, Trojans, spyware…these are scary words and can evoke images of creepy crawlers weaving their way around inside your computer doing unfathomable damage. What is a computer owner to do?
Everyone has heard the horrors of viruses. But not everyone is prepared to fight the little critters. Here are a few tips to protect yourself from any and all viruses to help keep your computer safe from harm.
1. Your computer should have virus protection. No excuses. There are numerous companies who sell anti-virus protection. We recommend you also install a firewall for added protection. You can buy them online then download.
2. Once you have the virus protection set it up for automatic scans. This is best done in the middle of the night, once every other week, so it won’t hold you up when you want to work on your computer during the day. Also recommended is running your own virus scan once a week. This way if a virus or something unknown comes up, you’ll have a visible choice whether to quarantine it or to obliterate it altogether.
3. Update your anti-virus program often. Usually you’ll receive notices for the latest update. Just click and it will automatically update your anti-virus for you. Also make sure you purchase the latest anti-virus protection yearly.
4. Another way to protect yourself is to NEVER open e-mail from someone you don’t know. And make sure you NEVER open attachments from unknown senders. This is one way people can introduce a virus into your computer.
And if all else fails, we here at NuAddition are here to help with any and all of your anti-virus and firewall protection needs. We are here seven days a week to better serve all our clients in the South Florida region.

The Importance of Backing up Your Work
In this day and age we store so much information on our computers everyday that it is sometimes easy to forget one of the most important things to do- back up your work.
People store what they’ve written for work or for personal use, letters to friends, articles they’ve found and want to keep, music, office documents, financial records, videos and even beloved photos. We don’t fully realize that all these wonderful things we have stored on the computer and want to keep could at any time suddenly NOT be on our computers.
We deal with customers everyday who have had their computers get viruses, lightening strike their house, teens or kids working on the computer who click the delete button at the wrong time. Even spouses who have mistakenly (or perhaps in a rage) deleted something that was stored.
In my computer repair business I can’t count the number of times I’ve had customers lose their data due to hardware damage and either they can’t recover their information or it costs them a small fortune to do so.
Sometimes people don’t know where to start or how to back up and the process can be off putting or leave one bewildered. We are here to help you learn how to back up and what you need to do to accomplish this task. We know full well that backing up is essential for keeping anything you want to store on your computer.
The process isn’t as hard as it was, say, years ago, so in our next blog we are going to provide you with a few ways and the tools you might need to get your treasures stored on the computer so they will be there every time you want to find them. We at NuAddition are here to help you with all your computer needs and are available to answer any questions you might have. We are here seven days a week to better serve all our clients in the South Florida region.
